it would be the height of understatement to say that billionaire Donald trump is a colorful character. It would be more accurate and specific to describe “the Donald”, as he is called, is an egotistical loudmouth “P.T. Barnum”-style showman, who has refined the use of arrogance to high artistic level.
Over a year ago he grabbed the spotlight by declaring that he was considering a run for president of the USA. He began making public appearances and political speeches at fundraisers, and definitively led the media to believe that it was a foregone conclusion that at the end of this period of “consideration”, no one would be surprised with his decision, which he coyly led the world to believe would be that he would, indeed, be a presidential contender.
When the dust of this “period of consideration” had cleared, “the Donald” announced that would not be running for president, after all…at least not right now. The reason is clear: he was never really serious about considering a real run for the White House. Instead, he was doing what he does best and totally loves doing: sucking the oxygen out of the room. or put another way, he was dancing in the limelight while the media and almost everyone else was focused on him and his antics. “The Donald’ just totally loves this sort of media suck.
However, while he was playing “thinking about it”, he did make a huge issue of president Barack Obama’s place of birth. Since at the time Obama was secretly authorizing the demise of Osama Bin Laden, he simply released his long-form birth certificate from the state of Hawaii. When the certificate was publicized, “the Donald”, having no idea that Obama had bigger fish to fry (which he did ultimately fry), seized upon that action to publicly pat himself on the back as if he had just saved a billion people from starvation and disease. After that, the subject of Obama’s birthplace faded into the background.
Now, a year later, “the Donald” has resurrected the issue, claiming repeatedly that “his people” have been to Hawaii and have uncovered “unbelievable evidence” that that birth certificate is a forgery. even though the state of Hawaii has repeatedly certified it. He never explained what that “unbelievable evidence was.
In an interview with Wolf Blitzer on CNN yesterday (May 29, 2012), Blitzer made that point to Trump. Trump’s response was that the governor of Hawaii was a democrat and therefore an Obama supporter, making the implication that the governor falsified the documentation. Later in the interview, which you can read and/or listen to HERE, Blitzer made the point that the governor of Hawaii is actually a republican.
HMmmmmm…..
It seems that “the Donald” needs to steal the spotlight once a year, but because outside of the cut-throat business world he does not seem to be particularly bright, he needs to invent an issue, hone it to its maximum media and public appeal, and then stand as tall as he can and repeat it over and over and over until the less gifted of the masses begin to believe it….not on its merits, but on its repetition.
When Sarah Palin was running as McCain’s running mate for vice-president in 2008, she made numerous statements that had no basis in reality, such as that as governor of Alaska, she was well versed in foreign affairs and foreign policy because Alaska was bordered to the east by Canada (a more polite and far more socially advance nation than the USA), and to the west by Russia. In fact, as an added knowledge bonus, she made the point that from a certain Aleutian island of Alaska, she could actually SEE Russia! She never explained how having Canada on one border and being able to see Russia from a remote island made her a foreign policy expert.
When Michele Bachmann was running for president in 2011, she made so many statements linking her view of America to the bible, that they are too numerous to list here. She also repeatedly claimed that if she was elected president, gasoline price would go down to $2.00 a gallon. She made that claim repeatedly, even though she never explained how that would happen. And she never explained the logic behind her biblical connection with the USA.
And finally, Christine O’Donnell made a ton of unsubstantiated claims when she ran for the US senate in Maryland in 2010. She never explained how someone who had dabbled in witchcraft was still qualified to be a senator, and in fact, never explained the logic of anything she said or any claim she made. She just made the claims….over and over and over.
Palin, Bachmann and O’Donnell all lost their elections. Thus, it’s fair to say they are losers. They tried to sell snake oil to the public, and that makes them untrustworthy.
Just like “the Donald”.
Trump said it himself – his evidence is just as he called it – unbelievable – which is why he hasn’t presented anything. So far we have dodged several bullets in the “What Can I Get The Masses To Believe and Still Get Elected” sweepstakes (with the possible exception of W). The above list of the Donald, Michelle B et al have proven themselves to be media whores for whom no amount of publicity is too little. Romney, if he has any brains at all, needs to distance himself from this pack of idiots – lets hope he put his brains on the roof of the car along with his dog.
, what I was trying to say was that Robin had good potins regarding what kind of a candidate we need in the next presidential election to get the people to pay attention. What we need is a strong conservative, who is unafraid of being just that, a strong conservative, and is unafraid to say what needs to be said, the last election of 2008 is a good example of what happens when a candidate is afraid to be strong and stand up for and to say what is right, when they speak.I remember well when Ronald Reagan ran for President, he was unafraid to stand up and be who he had been called to be, and what he stood for.He also was a man of great character, and took that with him into the Oval Office, he never backed down, but knew what he could get done, sometimes he had to compromise, ( Tip O’neal {you might say his arch rival} acknowledged that because of President Reagan’s determination he always got the majority of what Reagan was trying to get passed and get done for the good of America ).We need another Ronald Reagan, so far I don’t see one. I think Newt Gingrich would be a great President, however I don’t believe he could win, but would still be willing to work on his campaign. I also think that Rick Santorum would make a great President, I don’t think he would win either.I also would love to see Col. Allen West, and Herman Cain run, I have great admiration for both of them.We need another strong person like Ronald Reagan to not only be able to win, but to lead our Country to a true recovery, in every sense, not just economic, but Morally, In Defense, and in Courage and Honor.I really miss Ronald Reagan.I pray that the right person stands up to the plate, and as Ronald used to say, lets hit one for the Gipper. We need a true patriot, a person who is unafraid of the liberal media, and is willing to stand up to those who would destroy the fabric of our Country. One that will not only run a great race to win, but one that will lead our Country back to what our Founding Fathers intended when they set up our Country as One Nation under God a Nation that once again believes that all men were created Equal ( Including the Unborn ), and were endowed with certain inalienable rights by their Creator of Life, Liberty, and the Pursuit of Happiness We need a strong conservative leader.God bless,Sterling in VA
All four of them are full of themselves as well as crap. The same thing I suspect!!
For the great majority of mnkiand are satisfied with appearance, as though they were realities and are often more influenced by the things that seem than by those that are. ~ Nicolo MachiavelliIt is because of the above reason that I believe that Barack Hussein Obama, II will be re-elected in 2012. If that occurs, I also believe that the 2012 election will be the last that will be held in our country for generations and that he will rule for the rest of his natural life.I do not blame the politicians. As Lord Acton stated long ago, power tends to corrupt, but absolute power corrupts absolutely .I have read all of the comments to Robin’s article. You are all such wonderful and thoughtful people. I love each and every one of you and I thank you that I have a community of common values with you. However, here’s the problem:As I mentioned, I do not blame the politicians for their corruption. I blame the electorate. Let me explain:How many people watch American Idolatry (or, if you prefer, American I-Dull )?How many Americans tune in to the Super Bowl? How many American men subscribe to fantasy sports leagues? How many American men can name the top 10 NASCAR drivers but could not name the 10 Commandments (or the NINE justices of the United States Supreme Court)? How many American women tune in to Oprah Winfrey? Of them, how many can articulate a single amendment of the Bill of Rights?I agree with Paul Hubert more than any other reply in the comment string to Robin’s article. We must be on our knees beseeching our Heavely Father to show us mercy and to hear our prayer. We must be in our neighbor’s grille and challenge them on whether or not they have the political acumen to cast a competent vote.None of the candidates discussed in Robin’s article and ensuing commentary is capable of overcoming the Communist apparatus that is now in power. Not a chance. If, by some miracle, they were to they would soon be assassinated (remember Squeaky Fromme and John Hinckley?). Like an impetuous, yet overgrown child, the left refuses to relent even despite overwhelming evidence and fact.I close with the following to further reinforce my point:“For we wrestle not against flesh and blood, but against principalities, against powers, against the rulers of the darkness of this world, against spiritual wickedness in high places”. {Ephesians 6:12}May God bless us and have mercy on us.PMF
your reply struck a note with me. We are ineded involved in spiritual warfare more than ever today and discernment is a necessity. Unfortunately, it is lacking in too many churches. I’ve talked to professing Christians who know nothing about being saved by grace through faith and nothing about Christ’s substitutionary atoning death, but who do believe in universal salvation because no one ever explained the first two properly. Never mind having anyone explain to them about the character, attributes and nature of God! And I agree with you that we can recognize the season Christ talked about in the Olivet Sermon and we are in it now. And, oddly enough, I am just starting to read Dietrich Bonhoeffer’s Meditations on the Cross and am about to finish up a rough draft of a study I’m doing on Replacement Theology and why it isn’t valid. And as you know, that has to do with Israel still being in God’s plans for this world and unfulfilled prophecy. God still blesses those who bless Israel and curses those who curse Israel. I am greatly concerned for our nation because of the way our politicians are now treating Israel. I am still optimistic, both because God wins eventually and because we cannot know His timing, so we should continue in our endeavors to right our ship of state. Obama’s margin of victory was small among Independents and conservative Democrats (2% 2.9%), and he isn’t helping his case with them by his current rhetoric designed to energize his hard left base. His unscripted comments are nasty and petty; ordinary people don’t like that from a politician. That’s not what many of them thought they voted for.I am concerned that the Tea Party and the Republican establishment will work at cross purposes in the primaries and manage to help left wing Democrats get re-elected (my state of Colorado was a textbook case in the last election). This could result in a non-viable Republican presidential candidate and I really hope that doesn’t happen. I like the way Trump is stimulating debate, but I still don’t consider him a serious candidate either Republican or third party.
Robin, This may be the first time I’ve ever disagreed with you, atluohgh perhaps disagree is too strong of a word. My take on the 2012 presidential election is this: there is a role to be played by a variety of participants. Political players such as Palin, Bachman, Huckabee, Trump, Christie, Ryan, Coburn, etc., along with those who observe politics such as Beck, Limbaugh etc on the conservative side and those like Brooks and Noonan on the moderate side will all do what they need to do and say what they need to say. Our actual candidate (who I believe has yet to announce) on the other hand, needs to accomplish just one thing: win in November 2012. And to win, he/she needs to capture more votes than Obama (assuming he’s the D nominee). In order to capture more votes this time around, a lot of people who voted for Obama last time need to change their minds. So, how can our nominee achieve that which is no small task? I think that individual needs to primarily promote with CIVILITY and passion a narrow range of issues on which the greatest number of people can agree. The Constitution esp Liberty and fiscal matters are, imho, where most citizens can agree. If the message is appealing, and the nominee fights for the message and not against Obama, then it is my analysis that our side can win. Frankly, I think it is imperative that all of us as conservatives stop campaigning and speaking against Obama so much and speak instead against Progressive policy. Because assuming we ever get another election after 2012, Obama won’t be the opposition, but Progressivism will. Better to fight their ideology and not their guy, don’t you think, especially when so many people have a favorable opinion of his family and him? So I sort of agree that we need a fighter, but I think we need a fighter FOR Constitutional values and for fiscal recovery, not a fighter AGAINST Obama quite so much.
The Donald. Daddy made a fortune in real estate. Daddy put Donald through College. Daddy gave Donald the reins to his empire 3 years out of college. The Donald, through mortgages, bankrupcies etc., put a gazillion in the bank. Casinos, hotels, etc were purchased…and the rest is history. When asked why he was again questioning the Prez’s birth cert…he said many people wanted to know the truth. When asked who…he says he doesn’t name names. What a showboat! What does the Donald have in common with these other people? Politically…he’s a loser. If Mitt aligns himself with the Donald? He will surely bring defeat to the GOP!
. I believe we are aladery experiencing God’s judgment for the shedding of innocent blood (55 million human being in the womb), our idolatry, etc. I would go a step further in the blame game: the Church . George Barna keeps statistics on many things in the Church in America, and when it comes to abortion, alcohol/drug abuse, pornography, divorce, etc. the Church is no different than the world. I grew up in a mainline pro-choice denomination, left at the age of 17, and subsequently became a minister in an evangelical church. My undergraduate degree is Business Management and Political Science, and I can say with confidence that much of The Church Growth Movement is based on a business model, humanity’s wisdom, etc. versus the Power of God growing the Church via the conviction of His Spirit, and subsequent leading. Many of the churches that are growing is not because of evangelism, but inter-church growth- people are leaving churches and going to others. I most recently served as a full-time hospice chaplain for five years, and met many wonderful people. I was amazed how many professing Christians are out there, in talking to them, many today are creating a God in their own image’, not one based on His Word. There is a spiritual war going on right now the likes of which most professing Christians cannot see. We are in an age of deception. One of the enemy’s biggest lies is that he does not exist- look at the number of Christians who no longer believe in Hell? When confronted with people who were Universalist in nature, or asked how a loving God could send’ someone to hell’, I would tell them two things: God sends no one, people choose, and second, I would ask them hypothetically: If you had a child raped and murdered, they found the killer, he confessed, and all he got was a $50 fine, would you be upset? 100% of the time, their eyes would get big, and they’d say- sometimes in colorful ways- they would be upset. I would then ask them how they could demand justice, while denying the Creator of the universe, as GOD, the right to demand justice? It was an opportunity to explain grace and the cross. Unfortunately, like Bonhoeffer talks about, today there is much cheap grace’. We are also pressuring at unprecedented levels Israel to give up HIS covenant land- people mistakenly attribute the land to belong to the Jewish people- it is His, and He has covenanted with them to be stewards. The Ez.38-39 war is drawing closer, and Israel is finally standing alone with no one left to depend on but either themselves, or God. Soon, they will look upon Him whom they pierced, and mourn.’ (Zech 14).You are right about the powers’ in power- they will stop at nothing now that they are in the drivers seat. Soros and the globalists have invested untold sums to radically transform the world order. BHO is a turtle on a fencepost’, but a co-conspirator nonetheless. I agree with Robin in many ways, and it is very pragmatic, but there are forces bigger than Trump. If he Perot’s the election, the Republic’s future would definitely be sealed. It is interesting that so many believed the Cold War’ to be over. Read about Anatoily Golitsyn to understand the strategic deception there, and their subversion of every prominent area of influence- media, Hollywood, academia, DC, the NEA, etc.- beginning in the late 1950 s early 1960 s. They understand Machiavelli and Sun Tzu, we do not. I am an optimist by nature, but a realist. We are way past the point of no return. Time is short, we don’t know the day or hour, but He said we could know the season’- we are in it. The greatest preparation is to accept His Amazing Grace, and live, and be willing to die, for Him- as a living sacrifice’ (Romans 12:1), and even literally (Revelation 20:4). He is merciful, desiring all people to come to the knowledge of the Truth and be saved. In one of David Wilkeson’s books in the 90 s warning of coming judgment, he had a political cartoon from the NY Times- it was an image of what was supposed to be The Titanic’, but the name of the ship was The U.S. Economy’, and the caption read Even God could not sink this ship’. God does have, will have, and IS, the last Word. I too love you all. Pray for discernment, and those in desperate need of Him.Ron MorganPS- My log-in name came from my study of my genealogy in ancestry.com when I found royals’ that included Otto the Great, Charlemagne, and Charles Martel to name a few. Most of my lineage is Swiss/German, specifically relatives from Saxony. My true identity is in another Royal’- the King of kings, and Prince of Peace. He came first as the suffering servant’ of Isaiah 52-53, the context Judaism could not see; He is coming again as a Conquering King’- who they looked for in 29 A.D., they will soon see.
he was glad in 2006 when the dems. got congress beuscae he could get more of his things past. He said more than once he favored Hillary for president. Trump deals with democrats beuscae that is all you have in NY and NJ since the pathetic GOP does not exist there. Plenty of Republican voters were so angry at being ignored for 8 years during the Bush admin. that they voted for Obama. Donald Trump supported George Bush until he turned what was supposed to be a war in Iraq into a business deal of so-called nation building, robbing Americans of billions of dollars and killing our soldiers. Trump nevertheless supported McCain, but has said it would have taken a miracle for him to win after what Bush did. I agree with him, and of course McCain didn’t want to win and the GOP embeds including McCain sabotaged Palin. The same GOP operators are still out there including Gingrich and most of the alleged Republican media. As Rush has said, the establishment GOP does not consider Obama or democrats their #1 enemy. Rather, their #1 goal is to destroy any chance a strong conservative may have to be successful (that includes those backed by the Tea Party). Rush said they will fight more viciously to stop a good conservative candidate than they will to defeat Obama. My #1 concern is saving this country. The GOP would be very happy to see Obama re-elected they constantly say how much they like him. Mark Levin is angry that Trump will not go on his show (unless that has changed quite recently). Enough Americans are right of center that a decent candidate could have beaten Obama. But the GOP forced a bad candidate on us and now they think they should get to open their yap again? No more. They should all resign in disgrace with Karl Rove leading the way.
