It has always been so , Howie. Even George Washington handed out cigars and bottles of whiskey. Forget about Roman and English history. The thing to realize is EVERY generation must fight the fight for Plebeian rights.

Perhaps this is what Jefferson meant when he said “The tree of liberty must be refreshed from time to time with the blood of patriots and tyrants.”

You’re absolutely correct that the legislature is in recess, though they may go into special session in September and they also have ongoing committee meetings through January 2012. see http://legis.wisconsin.gov/Pages/session.aspx

Nonetheless, one man’s spin can always be converted into another man’s facts….facts such as the exit poll numbers and the fact that even from a psychological point of view, the dems taking control of the legislature says something about the dynamics of the Wisconsin recall election.

And from a status quo point of view, one can say that in the final analysis the dems gained “something” which the repubs.

But in the end, the one irrefutable fact is that in politics, money talks MUCH louder than truth, justice and the democratic way. That’s not spin; that’s fact….sadly.

Howie, kind of a mute point considering that the Wisconsin legislative session for the 2011-2012 term is in recess. These same legislators will have to face another election in Nov. on the same ticket as President Obama who may not survive if the Republican voter turnout yesterday was any indication.

Nice spin though.

Thanks, Howie, for trying to put a positive spin on this because I have been really bummed all day. The union issue is close to my heart and once Walker and his cronies (and their cronies, etc.) started in on union-busting as THE budgetary solution, I became incensed. It is always (?) the blue collar, wage earning slob, the guy punching a time clock, the teacher, the cop, the garbageman, the firefighter, the 9 to 5 people who are the villains in the eyes of the wealthy – those plutocrats who fear losing all they inherited.
